Ceramics, traditional weapons and costumes reflect the diversity of the State's culture and traces Sabah's early trade links with the neighbouring countries of Southeast Asia and China. The museum also houses musical instruments, tools and ritual paraphernalia.There is a Heritage Village on the Museum grounds where you can enter and experience different types of traditional houses of the various indigenous groups of Sabah. Cultural activities are held here from time to time.The Sabah State Museum is located on Jalan Bukit Istana Lama,Kota Kinabalu 4 km or about 15 minutes from the KK City Centre.

Monsopiad Cultural Village is based on the Legend of Monsopiad a reknown warrior/headhunter of the Kadazandusun people. The existing house in which the skulls are kept are more popularly known as the "House Of Skulls" and in itself is already a prominent tourist attractions since 1979 and is widely mentioned in tourist brochures and travel guides. The purpose of the village is to provide a conductive venue for visitors both local and international to have a glimpse of the culture of the Kadazandusun people.

The Monsopiad Cultural Village has been built with traditional materials, the way the Kadazandusun, as many other ethnic entities in Borneo have until recently erected their houses.

Kota Kinabalu Handicraft Center or popularly known as Pasar Filipina (Filipino Market) among the locals and tourists is one of the must see place in Kota Kinabalu city. It is situated along Tun Fuad Stephen Street across Sinsuran Complex.

There are many handicrafts that are sold here. Besides local souvenirs and handicrafts such askeychains, T-shirts and beautiful carved woods, there are also handicrafts from other Asian countries.
